What is Ejire?

Ejire gives users their own free private home page on the Internet where they can store their favourite web page and RSS links. Users are able to access their Ejire homepage from anywhere in the world with an Internet connected machine.

Ejire does not sell products. We provide users with a personal homepage that they can access from anywhere in the world

Are my details secure?

Yes. Your account details are held within your account area, which you can only access by logging in. As long as you do not disclose your login details to others, no one can see your account details.

Can anyone see my personal home page?

No. Your personal home page is private to you. You can share your home page with trusted friends and colleagues using the 'Group Access' feature. The 'Group Access' feature has to be explicitly enabled by you in order for others to see your homepage.

How do I selectively share my home page using the 'Group Access' feature

You can selectively share access to your home page using the 'Group Access' feature. The 'Group Access' feature are a set of values, which is separate and independent from your Account login information, that you define that enables a third party (i.e. A trusted friend) restricted read only access to your home page. Your trusted friend will not be able to see or modify your account data (E.g. Email Address, Password, Bookmark Folders, Web page links, etc).

The Group Access values (such as Group Access Identifier, Group Access Keyword) are all you need to share with your trusted friend in order for them to see your home page. Only share your Group Access data with people you trust.

To enable Group Access to your home page:
Group Access can be enabled at account creation time or later via an update of your account data.
  1. Select the 'Create Account' link or the 'My Account' link (if already logged in).
  2. Ensure the required Account form fields are filled in (e.g. Email Address, Password, Name, etc.).
  3. Enter a unique identifier for your group access in the 'Group Access Identifier' field. Note, this is used to uniquely identify your home page.
  4. Enter a keyword for your group access in the 'Group Access Keyword' field. Note, this is used to restrict access to your homepage. Both the unique identifier and keyword must match before anyone can access your home page.
  5. Enter a user friendly display name for your group access in the 'Group Access Display Name' field. Note, this is used to generate a welcome message.
  6. Click the "Submit" button to either create/modify your user account, thereby enabling Group Access.
  7. Once enabled, you are then free to share the Group Access Identifier and Keyword with others that you trust.
  8. Read only access to your home page, by trusted individuals, can only be gained by logging in via the Group Access Sign In page.
  9. Note, you as the owner of the home page must access your home page and account information via the normal Account Sign In page.

To disable Group Access to your home page:
Group Access can be disabled at account creation time or later via an update of your account data.
  1. Select the 'My Account' link (if already logged in).
  2. Ensure the required Account form fields are filled in (e.g. Email Address, Password, Name, etc.).
  3. Delete the values in the group access Identifier, Keyword and Display Name fields.
  4. Click the "Submit" button to modify your user account, thereby disabling Group Access.

How do I create, and update, a Folder?

Your saved bookmarks are grouped under folders that you create. Folders are created via the "Create Bookmark Folder" form on the 'Manage Bookmarks' page (select the 'Organise Bookmarks' link to get to the page).

To create a Bookmark Folder, first:

  1. Select the 'CREATE' tab.
  2. Enter the name of the folder in the Folder Name field.
  3. Enter a description of the folder.
  4. Select the Parent Folder, if any, that the new Folder will be created/located under. Note, this step is optional.
  5. Click the "Create" button to create the folder.
  6. The new Folder should now be visible in the "Saved Bookmarks" section in the left hand column of your homepage.
  7. Note, The Folder Name and Description fields must be filled in, and Folder Names must be unique.

To update a Folder first:
Modify Category Form Image
  1. Select the 'UPDATE' tab.
  2. Select the Folder to update by clicking the corresponding Folder Name.
  3. This causes the 'Update Selected Folder' form to be selected, with the form filled out with the current values of the selected folder!
  4. Modify the relevant fields.
  5. Click the "Update" button to update the folder.
  6. The updated Folder should now be visible in the "Saved Bookmarks" section in the left hand column of your homepage.
  7. Note, The Folder Name and Description fields must be filled in, and Folder Names must be unique.

How do I save, and update, a web page or RSS link?

Your saved bookmarks/Web page links are grouped under folders that you create. Bookmarks are saved via the "Add To Bookmarks' form found on the left hand side of your homepage and on the 'Manage Bookmarks' page (select the 'Organise Bookmarks' link to get to the page).

To Save a Bookmark, first:

  1. Select the 'CREATE' tab (if on the 'Manage Bookmarks' page).
  2. Enter the name of the bookmark in the Name field.
  3. Enter a description of the bookmark in the Description field. Note this step is optional.
  4. Select the Folder that the bookmark will be filed under. Note Bookmark Names must be unique per folder.
  5. Enter the web address of the bookmark (E.g. www.bbc.co.uk or http://www.bbc.co.uk. Both forms are accepted).
  6. Select the Web page or RSS Radio button to identify the type of bookmark being saved.
  7. Click the "Add" button to save the bookmark.
  8. The saved bookmark should now be visible in the "Saved Bookmarks" section in the left hand column of your homepage.
  9. Note, the Name, Folder, Address/URL and Web page fields are mandatory fields and must be filled in.

  

To Update a Bookmark, first:

  1. Select the 'UPDATE' tab from the 'Manage Bookmarks' page.
  2. Select the Bookmark to update by clicking the corresponding Bookmark name.
  3. This causes the 'Update Selected Bookmark' form to be selected, with the form filled out with the current values of the selected bookmark!

  5. Click the "Update" button to update the bookmark.
  6. The updated bookmark should now be visible in the "Saved Bookmarks" section in the left hand column of your homepage.

What is RSS?

Want to keep up with the latest news/articles from your favourite web sites without having to go searching for it? RSS (also known as 'Really Simple Syndication', 'Rich Site Summary', etc) allows you to see when sites from all over the Internet have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and articles (as well as audio files, photographs or video) in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to remember to visit each site every day. A more detailed description of RSS can be found at XML.com.

Ejire acts as an RSS Client, it displays the headlines from your chosen sites, allowing you the ability to monitor dozens of web sites from the convenience of your home page. Clicking on the headline link displays the full story.

How do I use Ejire?

Your homepage is accessible anywhere in the world from any Internet connected machine. Once logged in, your favourite web pages and RSS links are just a click away from your customisable private home page.

To set how your favourite web pages are displayed:
Launch Image Your favourite web pages or RSS links, once selected, can either be displayed in the current browser window or in a new browser window.

  1. To display web pages in the current browser window, click the corresponding "Current Window" radio button found in the top right hand corner of your homepage. Note, this causes selected web pages to be displayed in the current browser window, hence you will need to use your browser's "Back" button to get back to your Ejire.com homepage.
  2. Or, to load web pages in a new browser window, click the corresponding "New Window" radio button found in the top right hand corner of your homepage. Note, this causes selected web pages to be displayed in a new browser window.

To view an Internet Feed link:
"Internet Feeds" are a collection of RSS feeds from well respected news organisations. The RSS feeds are automatically searched regularly by Ejire and links to the published articles on the external site are made available on the Ejire homepage. The "Internet Feeds" section can be found on the right hand side column of the Ejire homepage. Internet Feeds Image

  1. Clicking a specific "Internet Feeds" link (for example "BBC World News") listed in the "Internet Feeds" section displays all the article headings defined in that feed directly on your homepage.
  2. Selecting a specific RSS article heading causes, depending on your settings, the selected article to be displayed in the current or new browser window.

To view a favourite web page or RSS link:

  1. Click the bookmark link listed in the "Saved Bookmarks" section in the left hand column of your homepage.
  2. Selecting a web page link causes, depending on your settings, the selected page to be displayed in the current or new browser window.
  3. Selecting an RSS link, identified by an RSS icon, displays the RSS article headings directly on your homepage. Selecting a specific RSS article heading causes, depending on your settings, the selected article to be displayed in the current or new browser window.

To delete a bookmark, first:

  1. Select the bookmark to delete by clicking the corresponding bookmark checkbox.
  2. Click the "Delete" button to delete the bookmark
  3. The deleted bookmark should no longer be listed in the "Saved Bookmarks" section.

To delete a Folder, first:

  1. Select the Folder to delete by clicking the corresponding Folder checkbox.
  2. If the selected Folder has any assigned bookmarks, the assigned bookmarks will also be selected.
  3. Click the "Delete" button to delete the Folder
  4. The deleted folder, and bookmarks, should no longer be listed in the "Saved Bookmarks" section.

To delete ALL defined Folders and Bookmarks, first:

  1. Click the "Select All To Delete" corresponding checkbox.
  2. All defined Folders and Bookmarks will be selected.
  3. Click the "Delete" button to delete all
  4. The deleted folders and bookmarks should no longer be listed in the "Saved Bookmarks" section.

Can I personalise my Ejire homepage?

Yes, you can personalise your Ejire homepage. Once logged in, browse to the "Personalise" page (see link listed in the top link bar under the Ejire logo).

To change how your personal homepage is displayed, first:

  1. Select the 'Select Colour Scheme' tab.
  2. The Colour Scheme tab page displays a list of available 'Looks' with accompanying image.
  3. Clicking each image displays an example home page based on the selected look.
  4. Select the look you want and click the 'Select' button.
  5. This causes your homepage to be displayed based on the selected look.

To set a background image for your home page, first:

  1. Select the 'Select Background Image' tab.
  2. The Background Image tab page displays a list of available background Images.
  3. Select the background image you want and click the 'Select' button.
  4. This causes your homepage background to be displayed based on the selected image.
